New Edition of“Bamboo Pendant Light” series Inspired by 1960s Design
The “Bamboo Light” series, originally designed by Shosaku Kondo, ceased production in 2008 due to the aging of skilled artisans. In 2015, Kondo passed on the full-scale original templates and weaving techniques to young bamboo craftsmen in Beppu, leading to the revival of the series as the SK Lamp.
In 2016, a new design called the “Bell Shape” was added, featuring a slightly smaller, cylindrical shade. The integrated shade, crafted from woven bamboo in a four-eye pattern and molded acrylic, uses the bamboo surface on the interior to create elegant curves with the material’s natural tension, showcasing the beauty and distinctive character of bamboo.
