Japanese design recognized around the world
This two-seat sofa from the lounge chair series was used in the lounge of Hotel New Japan.
Isamu Kenmochi created a design that clearly conveys Japanese characteristics and is appropriate for a hotel lounge where people from all over the world gather.
The beautiful proportions are achieved through the skillful use of rattan material.
The sigh-inducing perfection of the form is the result of Isamu Kenmochi's exhaustive study of chair shapes.
There is an anecdote that Isamu Kenmochi sat beside the craftsman at the time and consulted with him while making the chair, allowing the viewer to appreciate the exquisiteness of the handiwork. His outstanding craftsmanship also contributed to the realization of the product.
This masterpiece was the first Japanese furniture to be selected for inclusion in the MoMA Permanent Collection in 1964.
